The Master Mummer (1905)

THE MASTER MUMMER (1905)

A cracking start to this story...
Three young men share a flat in London. They all work from home: Allan Mabane is a Scottish artist who wears a "disreputable smock"; Arthur is the youngest of them; Arnold Greatson is a writer of popular stories but objects to them being caricatured as "pot-boilers".
They have a housekeeper Mrs Burdett who is the essence of respectability

Arnold is finding it hard to write something new, he is lacking inspiration, Mabane suggests that he seeks for it from real life and recommends going to a busy railway station where he can observe the hustle and bustle of travellers.
Arnold goes to Charing Cross station and there falls into conversation with an enigmatic figure, together they see an unhappy girl being led away by an older man...
